This was an exchange between a staff member and passenger at the kulula check-in counter at George airport in March. It was the fourth bomb threat made at the airport this year. While we at kulula love to make our fans smile, bomb threats are no laughing matter. The customer who made the comment was immediately isolated, questioned and sent to court the same day, and his bags thoroughly checked.

Getting our planes dressed for success: painting 101
Ever wondered how we get our planes to look as beautiful as they do? Well, to give you a few style tips into "painting planes 101" read on (Just in case you want to give your model planes a bit of a face lift – we know our planes sure like it!)

Prepare for makeover
We work with a great team of people who give our planes the beauty treatment they deserve. To start off the pamper process, we ask ourselves a few questions: Is it kulula? Does it make you laugh? Is the concept unique? (We don't want our planes to feel behind this season's trends of the sky)

Only after we've answered all these (very important) questions do we tackle the design. For every ten designs created, only one is chosen. We know it's a tough process but it's because only the most gorgeous and utterly hilarious designs will do for our fleet. After the best design is chosen, our planes are sent to the 'salon' where they are treated to days of pampering, painting and waxing to get them styled and ready for the public eye.

Getting dressed for success
The time it takes to paint a plane is dependent on the design itself: the bigger the plane and the more complicated the design, the longer it takes. For example, one of our Flying 101 planes took three days, while the jetsetters plane took a whopping 45 days! (Now that's what we call a spa retreat for planes!) For every plane there is about 10 to 25 dedicated stylists (a.k.a painters) who work night and day to dress our fleet ready for the runway.

While we love dressing up, there are some finishing touches that just don't suit our style. To make sure we don't block your (and of course our pilot's) view, we won't paint over the windows. We also won't paint the tyres, but we can paint the rims – so who votes for 'spinners' on the next fleet? The 'loading zone' is a 'no paint zone' too as are the belly of the plane and the wings, a.k.a the tickle spots, to be left alone at all times (as per the request of all planes).

Keeping our look fresh
At 35 000 feet in the air, you can't expect your make-up to stay put, so we don't expect it from our fleet either. If we see the paint is wearing thin or needs repairs, we'll retouch it. On average, we like to give our planes a 'facelift' (a.k.a repaint) every three to five years.

Is lost luggage really lost?
It's actually extremely rare for bags to get 'lost'. What does happen (occasionally) is that the captain can impose a weight restriction, which results in luggage getting put onto another flight. Here at kulula HQ, we realise that you would far rather entertain the idea of growing a third nostril than be told your precious suitcase of shoes will be arriving later, but sometimes bad things happen to good luggage, so we need to explain why.

Weather conditions such as wind direction, heat or rain on take-off or landing influence the weight a plane can carry. Aircraft weight is the most common reason that luggage is offloaded and transferred to another flight (so think about whether you really need that extra piece of pie). Sometimes a plane has to carry extra fuel, which impacts on how much other stuff can be carried. Lanseria International Airport in Jo'burg has a shorter runway than the other airports, which can add to the other factors. In the (still pretty rare) event that your luggage is transferred to a later flight, it's up to us to make sure you receive it, so we'll deliver it to you at our own expense. Promise. Cross our hearts.

Ada yang nodong ane untuk memberi penjelasan singkat tentang Boeing 747-300, jadi nubitol bin sotoy ini langsung mengerjakannya karena kebetulan lagi nggak ada kerjaan :mky_01:

1. Perkenalan
Boeing 747-300 lahir pada tanggal 5 Oktober 1982 dan yang membedakannya dengan Boeing 747-200 saat itu adalah punuknya yang lebih panjang, alhasil penumpang yang diangkut lebih banyak dan berat pesawat meningkat dan memangkas jarak tempuh. Swiss Air menjadi Launch Customer Boeing 747-300, dan customer terakhir yang menerima Boeing 747-300 adalah Sabena. 747-300 pertama kali diperkenalkan sebagai 747SUD (Stretched Upper Deck) dan kemudian berubah menjadi 747EUD (Extended Upper Deck) dan terakhir resmi menjadi 747-300. Secara sekilas, Boeing 747-300 mirip dengan Boeing 747-400, terutama seri 400D yang tidak ada wingket

Boeing 747-300 pada dasarnya mempunyai 3 varian, passanger only, combi (300M), dan Short Range (300SR). 747-300 Combi pernah dioperasikan oleh UTA, Varig, KLM, Singapore Airlines, Air India, dan Swiss Air. Sedangkan varian 300SR dioperasikan oleh Japan Airlines saja untuk rute padat di Jepang. Untuk varian kombi, bagian airframe mulai dari belakang sayap (section 4, bagian terakhir) hingga ke ekor berfungsi mengangkut kargo. Untuk 300SR (hanya dibuat 4 unit), dia mendapat perkuatan undercariage (bagian bawah airframe) untuk memperkuat airframe dikarenakan take off and landing cycle yang tinggi karena dipakai untuk jarak dekat. Di Indonesia sempet ada 2 unit, yang make Indonesian Airlines, buat angkut haji, tapi malah berujung apes gara2 gak boleh nurunin penumpang di Jeddah, ada masalah ama paper yang gak kelar..penyebab kebangkrutan Indonesian Airlines..

untuk sistem avionik sama persis dengan saudaranya seri 100/200/SP, dengan 3 orang di kokpit (kapten, kopilot, dan flight engineer). Untuk Navigasi, awalnya masih mengandalkan Inertial Navigation System (semacam komputer super jadul untuk memasukkan data waypoint jalur udara), sekarang sebagian sudah diupgrade dengan Flight Management System modern yang bisa ditemui di pesawat modern macam Boeing 767 dan dapat mengurangi beban kerja penerbang.

747-300 mendapat facelift dengan opsi mesin baru GE CF6-80 yang bisa ditemui di pesawat modern 767 dan 747-400, versi facelift juga dapat sayap Boeing 747-400 dan perbaikan sektor aerodinamika. Versi facelift dengan mesin CF6-80 mempunyai Fuel Burn terhemat diantara 747 classic lainnya, cukup jarang untuk menemui 747 classic dengan mesin CF6-80, hanya yang berbaju Varig (-300 pax only), Air India (-300M), dan Thai Airways (-300) yang mengoperasikan seri 300 dengan mesin CF6-80 nya 747-400 tanpa FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) system. Perbedaan dengan yang menggunakan dan tanpa FADEC system adalah fuel burn dan thrust rating yang dihasilkan, FADEC = more thrust with less fuel burn. Sebagai gantinya, di 747 classic yang memakai mesin CF6-80, dibekali perangkat Power Management Control dan Main Engine Control untuk mengatur kinerja mesin dan asupan bahan bakar, dikontrol secara mekanikal.

selain sektor mesin, sayap juga mendapat rombakan kecil di 747-300 facelift, yaitu dengan memakai desain sayap versi 400 untuk bagian wing root (sambungan sayap ke bodi) dan mengubah posisi HF antenna dari yang sebelumnya diujung sayap (bentuknya kayak jarum) ke leading edge di vertical stabilizer.

untuk punuk seri 300 sendiri, operator seri 100 dan 200 bisa memasangnya (upgrade) di pesawat mereka dengan konsekuensi kehilangan daya jelajah.

Qantas merupakan salah satu airline besar yang mengoperasikan 747-300 hingga akhir tahun 2000an, dengan menerbangan 747-300 di rute West to East coast Australia, dengan menggunakan mesin Rolls Royce RB211, bisa dibilang suara yang dihasilkan tidak begitu bising yang dihasilkan oleh PW JT9D dan CF6-50, bahkan banyak yang berkomentar suaranya mirip dengan 747-400. Operator besar yang menggunakan 747-300 hingga saat ini, Saudi Arabian, masih mengoperasikan 747-300 dengan mesin RB211, dan berdasarkan pengalaman ane spotting di pinggir runway bandara Soetta, 743 Saudi tidak begitu bising dan nyaris menyamai kebisingan 744 yang dipakai Garuda dan Eva Air.

Sekarang sebagian seri 300 dikonversi untuk mengangkut kargo, karena dari awal tidak ada versi kargo, kargo hanya bisa masuk dari bodi samping, tidak ada pintu depan rasaksa (moncongnya ngangkat) layaknya 747 kargo lain

Dari semua pesawat, saya paling suka design baru 747-8, mengikuti design 787 sebelumnya..
A380 memang pesawat tercangih dan terbaik dari sisi enjinering, tetapi 747 tetap menjadi pesawat tercantik yang pernah saya lihat..

Btw gak ada yang ngomongin N-250 alias Gatotkaca nya IPTN ya? Pesawat ini saat diluncurkan sempat menggemparkan Paris Airshow beberapa tahun silam.. Pesawat tercangih dimasanya, bahkan belum ada pesawat di masa itu yang menggunakan teknologi Fly By Wire, pesawat N-250 menjadi pesawat pertama di dunia yang menggunakan teknologi Fly By Wire (1992).. Sayang nya sih karena desakan dan ancaman IMF (bukan seperti yang di katakan di berita karena krisis 1997) akhirnya proyek ini di hentikan, sayang juga..

Ini juga MIG-21, Indonesia pernah punya tuh.. Salah satu pesawat yang di pakai untuk pembebasan Irian Barat, tapi tidak jadi di gunakan karena keburu damai.. MIG 17 dan 21 adalah pesawat tempur canggih, bahkan negara - negara sekutu gentar dengan pesawat buatan rusia ini (Termasuk TU-16KS dan TU-16 Badger)

Pesawat pembom strategis dengan mesin turboprop.. Masih di segani di dunia, dan pesawat ini memiliki daya jangkau sangat jauh, kecepatan maksimum pesawat diatas 900km/jam

Satu satunya pesawat di dunia yang tidak dibuat berdasarkan fashion semata, tapi fungsionalitas sebagai nomer satu.
Pers*tan dengan tampang, kalo sekali terjerembab opnamenya lama.
Mending beast, tapi sekali nyemplung sawah, besok bisa kerja lagi..

IMHO, A380 kayak sosis dikasi sayap sama rudder... aesthetically apalling... :e-wall:

Untuk Russian jets, jangan tanya dah. Serba sinting. Kayak MiG-21, sayap super tipis, bentuk kayak pensil, tp masih dipake di bbrp negara sampai sekarang karena reliabilitas dewa.

Atau Tu-95 Bear td... bomber turboprop? hohohoho... jangan remehkan baling2 nya. ni pesawat sangat mampu meluluhlantakkan sasaran dimana pun. Low tech, low maintenance.

Sayang Tu-16 Badger/KS di writeoff dari AURI gegara masalah jamur di fuel tank dan... politik. Andai ga di writeoff, mungkin Indonesia masih disegani yak...

Dulu AURI menjadi angkatan perang paling besar di bumi Selatan. Aussie takut, Belanda mikir dua kali buat parkir Karel Doorman di Irian Barat, dan Inggris diam seribu bahasa saat Malaysia siap diganyang.

Skr kita terjajah lagi, powerless hingga kedaulatan dan budaya di injak2 negeri tetangga... :ungg:

hhe, gw lupa ngecilin im sorry..

salah satu yg bikin gw kagum dengan russian fighting jet mereka serius untuk buat.. buat gagal, ya buat lagi gak banyak alasan..

Tu-16 milik indonesia saya pernah lihat, pesawat ini termasuk besar dan berat tapi kecepatan puncaknya hampir mencapai mach 1 serius dengan membawa bom berat dia bisa meluncur seperti itu.. Bodinya termasuk kuat, jaman mau di musiumkan ada beberapa yang di potong supaya mudah atau mau di gunakan lagi bahan body nya, tapi yang motong ampun2 karena bodynya keras dan penuh magnesium..

Indonesia termasuk "gila" waktu itu, pesawat nya macem2 pembom aja ada berapa macem..

Tupolev Tu-95 sampai sekarang sangat di takuti negara2 sekutu, the "bear" radar nya canggih..
Kita belum selesai ngomongin Su-35 Sukhoi sudah ujicoba Su-47 Berkut atau golden eagle masih tahap uji sampai sekarang..

Btw kalau versi sipil rushia juga jago kok, sukhoi superjet 100 itu bagus lho ternyata.. Pernah naik, mantap juga ternyata..
