Hybrid cars, such as the 2001 Honda Insight, report more engine problems than similar gasoline-powered vehicles, USA Today reported, citing the J.D. Power and Associates' 2004 Vehicle Dependability Study which asked 2001 model owners what's gone wrong in three years.
Owners of 2001-model Toyota and Honda hybrids reported twice as many engine problems as owners of gas-engine Toyotas and Hondas. And, owners of Volkswagen diesels reported up to twice as many engine problems as owners of gas-power VWs.
Hybrid problems included repairs to engine computers and emissions-control systems -- faults that gasoline and diesel models did not have, the story said.
Perhaps one reason for the hybrids relatively poor showing is that hybrids, which first came to the U.S. late in 1999, still didn't have the bugs worked out by the 2001 model year, said Walter McManus, executive director of forecasting at J.D. Power. Diesel problems "are more surprising" because it's an older technology.

Toyota dan Honda sudah test semua mobil2 hybridnya biar jauh lebi aman dan selevel dengan kendaraan2 biasanya.
