PROTON SAVVY

Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Berhad (Proton), a national company of Malaysia has launched its new product, a 5-doors-hatchback Proton Savvy.

Proton launched Savvy in Malaysian domestic market, they have just entered the compact car segment in domestic market in Malaysia. With this new product, they hope that it would help them get back their market positionand improve their share market position.

The new model, Proton Savvy, is equipped with a 1.2 litre engine. Savvy is all locally developed, and it is the third of the Proton self-built models, after Waja (named Impian in the UK) was launched in 2000 and their sport-hatchback model, Gen2 in 2004. But, until now the company has been manufacturing sedans and mid-size cars with Mitsubishi technology and parts, such as Arena, Satria GTi, Wira, Saga, and Perdana.

Proton expects to ignite the small car market in Malaysia with their newest product and help them compete with the global brand, which has in the past given a tough time to the local manufacturer.

Now, Proton sells their cars outside Malaysia in the UK, Iran, Turkey, Australia, Singapore, and Proton also have plans to develop Waja and Gen2 in the Indonesian market as they are keeping the Savvy primarily for the Malaysian domestic market.
